Many people feel a little nervous when taking an exam, after all, you’ve studied hard for something that is important to you. Some may just have a slight feeling of butterflies in the stomach, whilst others might be feeling very anxious with heart racing and hands sweating. It’s as though your mind sees the exam as a threat and has gone into fight or flight mode.
Unpleasant as this rush of adrenaline might be, a certain amount could be beneficial to you in actually helping you to focus on the task in hand. But when it has become out of control, when you feel so nervous that you are worried you won’t function at all, that your mind will go blank, then you need to take back control and be able to feel relaxed and calm, both in the lead up to the exam and during the exam itself.
